A change in perception

It has been awhile since I have written in here.....I know you are thinking what do you mean you post all of the time I do but I have been in a different state of mind that is what I mean. The first five weeks I very much had the backpacker state of mind but since then I have been around people who have families, people who are working, people who have very real things to worry about. As I was in the car with my friend from here the other day I was trying to figure things out but I couldn't get my mind to settle down yet when I was in Central America I just did things without thought. I will spend a few more days with my friend before heading onto some hostels in and around Sydney and then spend weekends with my friend(s) when they are not working. My friends in Australia are scattered all over which is good as it gives me the opportunity to see many parts of Australia but can make it tougher to have to go to so many different places. Today I am just looking into hostels for Sydney, Manley Beach and a few other spots. Once I get back into the backpacker state of mind I will then decide on New Zealand when and where and SE Asia when and where.

The last few weeks in the US I was in hotels and hostels but I was not meeting backpackers really. It can be hard finding the right hostel but usually you know very quickly what kind of place it is. Some hostels you get the vibe quickly that you will not meet people or that you will have heaps of fun and have lots of stories to share along with many beers. Hostels are all about the atmosphere some of them it seems people just won't or don't want to talk but I couldn't tell you why. Let me give you an example a little reminiscing from one of my favourite places Edinburgh Scotland....

I just got off the bus and looked to see the hostel was directly across the street which made me excited as normally I have to get lost for an hour or two before I find them. When I got into the hostel it was an Aussie working there by the name of Grant. As he was checking me in and we were chatting he told me there was a pub crawl that comes through there and it was the second stop so get rid of my stuff and get ready to go. I go to my room chat to the people and meet more Aussies and knew it was going to be a great night out. I go for a bit of a walk around up the Royal Mile which was close by. I was originally going to stay for 1 night I ended up staying 4 nights because of the atmosphere. So for now it is a matter of me finding those right hostels in Australia to have an amazing time  and then everything else will just flow naturally and before I know it I will be doing last minute trips to see concerts, check out exciting things and having conversations with new people for hours on end. I also discovered that AC/DC will be touring the country so now I want to see what other bands I can catch.....or what other sporting events.

When you are travelling you need to find people in the same mind set as you and what a better place to do it then in a hostel so for now I need to find one of the good ones and get a good Aussie experience.
