Fall time in Australia

It is coming into winter in Sydney which means colder temperatures although still probably warmer than most days in Calgary.....

I went for a walk along the beach in Manly and what do I see in the water? Dozens of people surfing I watch for awhile intrigued as it is something I know nothing about. As I am watching this I realize more and more just how Canadian and how much of an Albertan I just am. I think surfing might be neat to try but as for a sport for me not really.

I realize why I get bored at beaches so quickly it is not the fact that I couldn't swim before it has to do with where I grew up and how I was brought up. I spent a lot of my childhood in the bush helping my dad, and a lot of the sports revolved around being in and out of the bush. I didn't enjoy being in the bush then but I certainly do now. Beaches and water is just not something I was around as a kid sure I wasn't around mountains either but it is different. The water does fascinate me and I would like to learn how to dive at some point but it is not something that really drives me maybe because I haven't been down below yet.

One thing I realize more and more is as much as you can define a Canadian what makes it hard is where they are from a Canadian from Toronto is nothing like a Canadian from my hometown of Pembroke Ontario, and nothing like one from Yukon, or Alberta or the beloved Newfs. Yes Canadians tend to say sorry too much and we always tip. A lot of who you are and what you will enjoy is simply because of where you grew up but those things can change too. So where am I going with this......I honestly have no idea and now I have people from back home trying to chat with me.....so let me leave this with each passing day I realize more and more just who I am. Am I different then when I was a few months ago yes I am just getting more confident with myself and looking forward to hitting up some mountains and spending more time in the great outdoors
