The main reason I went to Japan was to visit my friend Junya. (Insert flashback music). I met Junya in Antigua Guatemala last February on Fat Tuesday. Gina (a girl from the hostel) and I were talking and Junya was on the rooftop. We started talking to Junya and he wanted to know what there was to do in Angitua. I told him "well you can drink the week with me or you can see the markets, hike a volcano and do a bunch of other things and then come drink with me". For more information on that day please see the blog posted below.
This blog related to my time in Antigua Guatemala more specifically Fat Tuesday http://tunatom.blogspot.kr/2015/02/fat-tuesday-antigua-style.htm.
I became good friends with Junya and we hung out a few times. I met up with him again in Northern Guatemala. when we said our goodbyes he said to me "See you in Japan". I never thought that would happen. I mean you meet so many people while traveling who say I will visit you or come visit me and for the most part you never see them again.
I talked to Junya over the last few months and told him I would come to Japan. I was in Canada in January this year and I figured why not fly to Japan from Vancouver Island. I talked to Junya and he setup skiing (that blog to come) in Japan for us along with a traditional Japanese hotel (that blog to come).
Now with the backstory done onto partying in Japan.
Junya is the total opposite I would expect of Japanese the guy is a total party animal and an absolute riot to hang out with. I met a few of his friends there which he told me they were crazy (he was right they are indeed crazy).
Both nights we went out drinking we went out for Japanese food - not Western Japanese food. I tried sake and the stuff just kills me. The food we had was interesting and some I really enjoyed and some is more of an acquired taste. When you go out for supper in Japan it is plate after plate after plate of food which everyone partakes in. Supper can last a long period of time in comparison to back home.
One night we went drinking I asked if we could do karakoee and play some mario kart. We started the night with supper with various different dishes (pictured below).

After the pictures we went on to some killer Mario Kart. I won the first round and Junya took the next 2.
When people do karaoke back home or most places it will be in a bar and you may see the same person go up for a 2nd or 3rd time. When you do karaoke in Japan you and your friends have a private room where you sing (most people do it because the bars are closed and you sneak booze in). It was not what I expected but a lot of fun.
Japan was definitely a highlight on my trip. If someone ever invites you to their home country take my advice do it. This trip was well worth it. Thanks again Junya for the memories (or lack of them). Next time I will show you my country (or New Zealand) because it is;
