Canberra war museum

I checked out the war museum/memorial here in Canberra and it was an impressive museum. Throughout the museum you hear music, and sounds that give you the eerie feeling of being right there with the pictures, videos and displays you are looking at. Throughout the museum you would suddenly be right there you would see movie screens showing you videos and lights - let me try to give you an example - the display was a helicopter from the Vietnam war and as you hear the "choppers coming in" a fan above is blowing are and you can hear the sounds of the choppers, the lights have increased over the chopper and then the videos show choppers in the air. In another area you are sitting by a bomber and you can watch and see the bombers hitting their marks. It was a really neat experience.

I have a hard time with museums such as this as you can never give the collection the justice it deserves, you can't hear the stories that will never be told, the emotions that are happening. I grew up in a military town an have friends and family in the Canadian Armed Forces. Walking around this museum for me brings a feeling of pain of what so many men, women and children have done for us, or go through even today. I have met men who are old enough to go to war for their country but can't even buy a beer. This is the 3rd country where I have been to a war museum and am curious as to what it will be like when I go to one in Vietnam.

The pictures and videos taken during these times are of extreme importance as some people will try to deny the existence of wars or the horrors that happen.......before I go off on a tangent I think it is important to visit these places. Personally if you ever go to London visit the Imperial War Museum it is an amazing museum and the piece they have on the Nazis and world war II will stun you. The pictures I have posted do not do the museum any kind of justice but I wanted to share a few of them anyways. Canada and Australia are still such long countries but have a very proud and important part in the wars that have happened and continue to happen. We can never do enough for our serving military personnel or are veterans but the least you can do is make sure these places are not forgotten and that your children grow up with respect for them.
