Robbed in Asia

If you are not a traveler until you are robbed then I have officially joined the club. I got to Cambodia yesterday and the immigration process leaving Vietnam can be a long process but needless to say I got in. I arrive in Cambodia and as soon as the bus stops there are people everywhere trying to get you in their cab, tuk tuk or on their bike. I ask a guy how much and I agree to the price but didn't realize I would be on the back of a motorcycle with my 50 pound pack on my back.......hey it was an adventure!

The good thing about here is you can take out currency in American dollars. A lot of the details about the robbery I am going to leave out. My phone and virtually all of my money was stolen. I was left with enough money to get a tuk tuk back to my hostel. I was out with some people from the hostel and we went to a bar I remember having a shot and we were then hanging out with some locals. I am in an area where I don't know where I am. I am asking for help from people and nobody will help me. I ask people for a map on their phone and some of them simply ignore me while others get angry with me. Eventually a man comes to talk to me and he is a police officer who offers me help along with a ride unfortunately he dropped me at the wrong hostel and I have to flag a tuk tuk down to get back to my hostel. When I wake up today I get onto my computer to try to wipe my phone and right now I am going to check again but I am hoping it has been wiped I change all of my passwords to various accounts.

I have a good sense of humour about it I just hope this is the last of the bad stuff on this trip. I was not harmed in any way other than my pride. This will change the way I do things and change my trip. It was an experience that I hope has made me smarter and more cautious. Money and possessions can be replaced and they are not worth it with that said this unfortunately this now leaves me hurting. Someone at the hostel bought my breakfast after I told him of my encounter. I have to go to the bank to get more cash out but will be leaving the majority of it safely locked away. I spent 5 weeks in Central America with no troubles and I am in Asia barely a week and this happens. I will be looking for a job in New Zealand and may need to look at heading there sooner. If anyone cares to donate to the "Help Tom after he was robbed fund" please send donations to tombroxham@gmail.com
Be Safe everyone
