Kiwi culture

The longer I am in New Zealand and spending time with locals the more I learn about Kiwi culture. Kiwis have a lot in common with Canadians including saying sorry a lot. Kiwis are very friendly people and tend to be very willing to help people much like my fellow Canadians. In Canada our religion is hockey, in New Zealand it is rugby and their national team The All Blacks are a very dominant team. It is quite impressive for such a small country to be as good as they are at a sport (which my fellow Canadians can understand). When Kiwis travel they are asked if they are Aussie (for Canadians we are asked if we are American *shutters* I really hate that).

Kiwis are quite proud of who they are. They can be quite sarcastic and have a sense of humour similar to that of Canadians. They say things such as, thirsty as (anything with as at the end), jandals, sweet as, bro, eh (guess it is not just a Canadian thing). Maori people are quite common to see here and you will see elements of the Maori language in the Kiwi culture - Kia Ora which is used as a greeting here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_ora)

New Zealand is known as the land of the long white cloud. There are a lot of rainy or cloudy days but when the sun does come out it can get quite hot. Whether the sun is out or not you want to have sunscreen on because of the hole in the ozone layer has a major affect in this region.

If you want an idea of dry Kiwi humour watch - What we do in the shadows. It is a mockumentary on vampires I am not going to lie I had tears rolling down my cheeks at times from laughing.

Sheep are a big part of the Kiwi economy and when you are driving through the rural areas you will see thousands of them. Just don't make the sheep noise or you will have a bunch of little lambs running after you (although they are quite tasty!).

I have grown found of Kiwi biscuits such as the ones below which are quite nice with tea.

 Something I was introduced to which I found was a little strange is they like to take their McDonalds fries and dip them in their sundaes.

If you ever get a chance to talk to a Kiwi or better yet come to New Zealand you won't regret it I have a few months left here and plan on enjoying it while I can as it is;

My Life
My Choice
My Time
