Surprises while travelling - Anyone else travelling?

Although this blog is all about me (Yes Suzette it really is all about me) feel free to comment on your own travel experiences, places you have been or want to go, maybe specific places you want to see like Petra, the Blue Hole, Machu Picchu or maybe something like Mardi Gras. To me the next best thing to travelling is planning out the next trip. My travel plans have changed and will change again and again on this journey. The more travelers you meet the more places or things you hear about that you just need to go to or see. Sometimes the surprises while you travel can be the best thing!

The pictures I have posted below are from 2011 when I did my first Europe trip. Originally I was starting in Paris and I would make my way to Belgium and Amsterdam and around to Germany before I went to Swizterland and return to Paris but I changed my plans. Some of my plans changed because people told me you really need to check out this city instead. What happens at times is where you are about to go someone has been or they are heading that way too.

The only reason I went to Paris on this trip was to visit an old housemate and friend of mine from my university days and I made a promise when he moved back I would come visit. It is always great when you know a local because they can show you heaps of secrets in the town, cheap places to eat and introduce you to their friends. The first 4 nights of travelling I was not happy with the hostels or hostel life but then I met a couple who told me I needed to check out this place called Interlaken in Switzerland and then things changed! Things might have changed because my phone died and I then spent more time trying to talk to people and the hostel also had the first bar in town along with happy hour and a BBQ......game set match......I started enjoying my trip much more and I am glad I went to Interlaken. From there I went to Munich which I was only going to stay one night but I had so much fun I ended up staying 4 nights and then I was off to Amsterdam (this is where the pictures come in). When I showed up in Amsterdam everyone was wearing orange and it was one of the biggest parties I had ever seen I had no idea what was going on other than a very fun time! This was a nice surprise as it was not something I expected. This is also a big reason to travel and be flexible as you never know what will happen and it is good to go with the flow.

Please do feel free to share your stories. I bet if you share your story as you write it you will instantly have a smile on your face and you just may help someone else with their travels. :)

This is some more information on the Kings day - formerly Queens Day Party.

The picture below is one of the channels going through Amsterdam and there was so many boats on the water you couldn't see the water. (Click on the picture to expand it)
